Cadmus Group     2007-present

Senior Associate

 

As a Senior Associate at the Cadmus Group, Jim heads up the firm’s sustainability and carbon management consulting services. He is also heavily involved in the core business of consulting for utilities on projects focused around sustainability, renewable energy projects and emerging methodologies for stimulating energy conservation.

Portland Development Commission, Portland, OR  2003, 2005-2007

Senior Manager

Managed region-wide marketing of the Portland metropolitan area, including coordination of Global Fortune 500 business recruitment projects. Served as Portland’s senior economic development liaison to more than 28 regional governments in Oregon and Washington to integrate marketing, financial and workforce development resources. In 2003, planned and managed Oregon Governor’s Mission to Europe.

  • Created and executed city’s business recruitment strategy, including development of a work plan, budget, hiring and annual assessment.
  • Recruited 15 businesses, employing over 4,700 people during the ’06-’07 budget year.
  • Leveraged under $10 million in loans and grants to stimulate more than $55 million in private investment.
  • Manage the Willamette Industrial Urban Renewal Area (WIURA) including development of a long term “industrial sanctuary” plan and redevelopment of key industrial properties, including Portland’s superfund site and over 110 acres of brownfield sites.
  • Recruited 16 companies to invest over $150 million to grow their local business using Portland’s Enterprise Zone, a valuable tax abatement program.
  • Pioneered participation in international trade shows marketing the region to targeted industrial sectors, including the bio-medical and sustainable technology industry.
  • Managed key aspects of business recruitment efforts, including negotiation of business incentives and investment assistance.
  • Assisted with the establishment of formal ties between Portland and Bologna, Italy.

 

Rocksoft Limited, Adelaide, Australia 2004

Chief Operating Officer

 Established Rocksoft’s California office. Responsible for setting divisional market direction, hiring and managing all key personnel in the US, full P&L responsibility. Senior representative for Veracity Division working with media, analysts and Fortune 500 clients in the US and international markets.

  • Established California business registration, contracted employees’ benefits, leased, furnished and opened Rocksoft’s first US office in San Jose, CA.
  • Established initial contacts in key markets, and with strong potential customers.
  • Conceived and implemented Rocksoft’s marketing strategy to penetrate the US OEM market for data security.

International Sales Director

 Responsible for building a worldwide sales and distribution relationships and supporting effective business development initiatives with key international business and technology partners. Responsibilities included: P&L responsibility, establishment of partner relationships, coordination with key sales influencers and management of government regulatory compliance.

Director International Sales

Built company’s international sales and distribution network, established and managed foreign sales offices. Extensive work with government regulatory agencies in Europe and Asia. After acquisition by Diamond Multimedia, I was responsible for global marketing and business development involving sales of telecommunications products exceeding $70 million.

  • Established multi-tiered distribution network in 65 countries for Supra’s modem products.
  • Increased international sales from $3 million to $30 million annually.
  • Captured dominant international market share in 8 key markets through adaptive regional product marketing, cost-effective product localization, customized marketing communications and targeted channel marketing. 
  • Managed successful $6 million global marketing campaign with Rockwell, Lucent, Motorola, Ascend and Compaq.

 

Oregon Economic Development Department 1982 - 1989

International Sales Director (1989)

Managed State of Oregon’s extensive trade promotion program, organizing numerous internal trade and Gubernatorial missions. Responsible for pioneering Oregon’s international business attraction program. Established foreign offices in Japan and Korea. Served as state’s trade liaison to support Oregon’s congressional delegation and the Governor’s office on trade related issues. Responsibilities included public speaking, legislative lobbying and trade support for the Oregon business community.

  • Initiated one of nation’s first effective overseas business attraction marketing programs.
  • Successfully attracted over $5 billion in overseas investment to Oregon over 5 years.
  • Managed a $2.7 million trade development program.
