Thayers.org undergoes a dramatic change…

Currier-Ives print of canoers

Over the last year I have been transferring all the hiking material from my family website and publishing it on www.foresthiker.com. But in the meantime, I left much of that material on the original site until the new site was nearly complete. Now I’ve finally taken the second step to cull the hiking materials from the family site. Over the next few months I’ll be adding new materials, especially photographs to this site.

I am looking for Jim Thayer, child of Charles and Cynthia Thayer. Charles issued a passport to my grandmother and her 4 children that enabled them to leave Nazi Germany 75 years ago. I can send a photo of the passport page signed by Charles if you would like to see it

I would love to see this. I have often wondered what it was like working around the clock to process as many visa’s as they could…Those were terrible times in Berlin and throughout Germany. It seems like such a frail gesture – just a signature – and yet it meant survival for so many. Jim Thayer
